Euro.computer manifesto
- Today everyone’s a coder. The cost of development has gone down and, more importantly, coding is moving from developers to domain experts.
- Tensions in the world are rising. The five big AI labs (Anthropic, Google, Meta, OpenAI, xAI) are becoming more powerful and more influential and all of them are American. Sovereignty becomes more and more important.
- The larger and legally more difficult systems (like bookkeeping software) did not get disrupted as much as other areas. Meaning there are a lot of legacy systems out there that we still depend on.
These are the three core beliefs that launched Euro.computer. Together they make a strong case for complex, European, open source software developed with domain experts. That leads us to our mission “to develop and offer a truly open source backbone for all sizes of organizations from SME to Enterprise, starting with bookkeeping”.
Three promises
- All software here is licensed under Apache 2.0 and as such can be changed, hosted or even sold on a competing hosting service by anyone. This license will never change.
- We offer a European hosted version of the software as an operating-cost-plus model. As more and more people sign-up and the economies of scale kick in the price of the software will go down not up.
- Your data is always yours. Fully exportable at any time. Move from the hosted option to the self-hosted option as you like.
Design principles
- In terms of features, automation and security our software should be comparable to the incumbents.
- Our software is designed API-first and AI-first (for now that means MCP included).
- Our UX focuses on simplicity. Keyboard-first navigation, clean and simple design, minimizing the steps of your daily workflows.
